
KiXX drop first match to Cleveland this season, 8-3

Cleveland, Ohio, March 19, 2004 â The Philadelphia KiXX (18-13) were defeated by the Cleveland Force (11-19) by a score of 8-3 tonight in front of 4,849 fans at the Convocation Center at CSU. The victory marks the first win for the Force against Eastern Division opponents this season and the first versus Philadelphia since the 2002-03 campaign when Cleveland knocked-off the KiXX, 11-8 on March 23, 2003. Lee Edgerton registered the game winner for the Force at 7:56 of the second period. Peter Pappas (15-9) took the loss in net for Philadelphia, recording eight saves, while Jim Larkin improves to 9-15 with 23 saves and the win for the Force.
Philadelphia's Tony McPeak opened the scoring on a feed from defender Jeremy Aldrich at 3:46 of the first quarter, providing the team an early 1-0 advantage. The Force quickly responded, less than a minute later (4:34), as Braeden Cloutier knocked in a header from teammate Adauto Neto to knot the score at 1-1. Neto handed Cleveland its first lead of the game, 2-1, connecting off a rebounded shot from Myles Stoddard at 10:31 of the period. Zoran Karic, the game's all-time leader in assists, extended the Force advantage to two, 3-1, with a breakaway goal that he lobbed over the head of Pappas and into the back of the net at 11:56. Force midfielder Justin Evans recorded the assist on the play. Cleveland's 3-1 lead held after one full quarter of play.
Cleveland's Lee Edgerton connected with Hector Marinaro to tally the only score of the second period (7:56) and conclude the first half of action with a 4-1 Force lead.
Marinaro buried a pass from defender John Ball from just beyond the yellow line to extend the Force lead to four, 5-1, at 6:47 of the third stanza. KiXX defender Mauricio Vincello finally snapped Cleveland's string of five unanswered goals with a big left-footer, 40-feet out from McPeak at 7:54. The 5-2 Force lead held entering the final quarter of play.
Ze Roberto cut the KiXX deficit to two, 5-3, with a notch from defender Pat Morris at 3:19 of the fourth, but Karic registered his second goal of the contest to put Cleveland back ahead three, 6-3, on an assist from Antonio Sutton at 4:52. Marinaro then stretched the Force advantage to four, 7-3 with a power-play goal from Lee Edgerton at 11:42 of the stanza; Cleveland received the one-man advantage after KiXX captain Kevin Sloan was called for a two-minute holding penalty at 10:15. Defender Josh Timbers sealed the Force victory, 8-3, with a tally from Ball at 13:20.
Notes: With tonight's loss, Philadelphia is now 0-12 when trailing entering the final period of play, while the Force improves to 9-1 when leading after three. The KiXX now post a 12-4 record when notching the first goal of the contest this season.
