Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (6-4, 5-4 PIFL) will take on the Alabama Hammers (3-7) this Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. EST inside the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama. This contest will be the second of two meetings between the Hawks and Hammers and the final game of the Steelhawks regular season. The Hawks hope to snap a two game losing streak and with a win lock up a spot in the post season for the fourth season in a row.
The two teams met just three weeks ago with the Steelhawks handedly beating the Hammers 50-31. Since the meeting against Alabama, the Hawks have significantly struggled and for the first time this season, losing two games in a row. The Hawks suffered losses to Richmond and Trenton, but look to rediscover their confidence against Alabama this weekend. This weekend's game holds huge stakes for the Hawks, as a win will put them in the post season.
As for the Hammers, who have not won a game since week four, they look to spoil the Hawks' playoff dreams and get their revenge. The Hammers have nothing to lose and will certainly bring all they have against the Hawks. Despite their struggles, the Hammers still lead the league in passing offense with quarterback Garrett Sutphen leading the league in total offense. Another offensive weapon is Alabama's receiver Mico McSwain who leads the league in receiving yards.
Right now the playoff picture is a blurry, but hopeful for the Steelhawks. A win will secure a post season spot, but fate around the league will determine their seating. In the PIFL, the top 4 teams make the playoffs. The first and second ranked team host the first round games, with the first rank taking on the fourth and the second taking on the third. From there, the championship game is hosted by whichever team holds the top seat. At this point, the Hawks' only goal is to make the post season, seeding is irrelevant.
