Fog Devils Make First Move

December 17, 2007 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
St. John's Fog Devils News Release

St. John's (December 17, 2007) - The St. John's Fog Devils have made their first big move of the December Trade Period, sending a pair of veterans to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Ryan Graham (06-17-87) and Kyle Stanley (03-25-88) are the newest members of the Titan, while coming back the other way to join the Fog Devils are defenseman Mathieu Labrie (06-26-87) and winger Samuel Grenache (12-05-89). The two teams will also swap draft picks, with Bathurst sending a 2008 first rounder to St. John's and St. John's countering with a 2008 second round pick. Thus, the deal is as follows:

To BAT:

Ryan Graham

Kyle Stanley

2008 2nd round selection in QMJHL Midget Entry Draft

To SNL:

Mathieu Labrie

Samuel Grenache

2008 1st round selection in QMJHL Midget Entry Draft

When reached for comment on the deal, Fog Devils general manager had the following to say on the players he was parting with:

"Ryan was a great soldier for us since we acquired him from Gatineau and it was a tough decision to let him go. Still, we felt we needed to make changes at this point. For Stan, he's been with the team since the beginning as an expansion draft player and he made great contributions to our organization. We want to wish both players the best of luck in the future."

When discussing the players coming to St. John's, he was also very complimenting:

"We're very happy to have Mathieu Labrie come in, we feel he's the type of defenseman who will make our team a better team. He can play against other team's best lines, he's good defensively and he can play offense as well. He'll help us by making sure we spend less time in our own zone, he makes a good breakout pass and we think he's what we need. Samuel Grenache, we're also very pleased to have him. He's proven in midget that he has offensive skill and he also has some grit from what he's shown this year in Bathurst. It's a good mix to have and we like what we have with him."

The trade period concludes on January 8, 2008.
