Central Illinois Flying Aces News Release

MADISON, Wisc. - The Flying Aces beat the Madison Capitols in the shootout today on the road.

The Aces were perfect on the penalty kill, killing off all six of the Capitols' opportunities. The Aces were outshot 46 to 50 in a high chance affair.

At 1:39 in the first, Stephen Halliday (Toronto, ON) dug out a puck on the wall and passed to Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) who scored with a sharp-angled shot below the goal line to get the first goal of the game.

Lynden Breen (Grand Bay-Westfield, NB) stole the puck while forechecking on the penalty kill and shot the puck on net. It bounced off a Capitols player and landed in the back of the net to give the Aces a two to nothing lead at 15:50 in the first.

At 6:10 in the second, the Capitols capitalized on a snapped stick to steal the puck and drive into the zone. Anthony Stark scored with a shot from up high as the Capitols screened the goaltender to get on the board.

Trey LeBarge broke the puck out with speed and wristed the puck past the goaltender to tie the game for Madison at 3:47 in the third.

Ryan Snowden (Kennett Square, Penn.) made several key saves for the Aces during overtime including stopping a breakaway when the Capitols were able to spring a player after he left the penalty box.

The game had to be decided in the shootout. Max Ellis (Canton, Mich.) scored in the first round as did the Capitols player. Neither team scored in the second round. Janicke scored in the final round, and Snowden made the save to seal the victory for the Aces on top of a strong forty-eight save performance.

The Flying Aces next play at home next on Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20 against Team USA.
