USHL Dubuque Fighting Saints

Saints Beat Lancers 7-2

October 13, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

The Dubuque Fighting Saints put up a touchdown on a college football Saturday to push past the Omaha Lancers 7-2. Dubuque received another balanced effort from all four lines and got at least one goal from every line in their win. The Fighting Saints completed a sweep of their road trip, downing the Lincoln Stars 5-3 the night before. Here are your Saints Scribbles for the night:

-The Dylan Jackson, Ty Jackson, Riese Gaber line was swarming again. Both Jacksons tallied a goal for Dubuque and they were buzzing on the forecheck all night. After their show last night in Lincoln, it would have been understandable if the three regressed a bit. However, it was far the opposite as they came out guns-a-blazing and set the tone for the Fighting Saints.

-12 goals in two games is nothing to scoff. The goals weren't cheapies either. Dubuque showed great offensive prowess over the two nights. The team didn't struggle offensively in the first three games of the season, but they just weren't getting the puck in the back of the net. That changed in a big way during the road trip.

-Cooper Haar scored his first two goals in the USHL. The first one was a weird, 40 foot back hand that somehow squeaked through the pads of Vinnie Purpura. His second goal was much more conventional and pretty as well. Haar received a cross ice pass from Derek Contessa to pot his second of the game.

-Dubuque was stout defensively in this one as well. They only allowed two goals and were in the Lancers zone far more than Omaha was in the attacking zone. Matthew Thiessen picked up his third win of the season and moved to 3-1-1.

-The Fighting Saints are showing that they are not only a balanced team, but also a high powered team. The team has flip flopped which line lines up as the top line, but every line has had their moments this season. Tonight, all four tallied goals.

-Mason McCormick also got his first goal of his USHL career. McCormick tallied a massive goal for Dubuque, giving them a two goal lead instead of just one goal like last night against Lincoln.

-Dubuque will have a quick turnaround once again as they have a few days of rest before they head back on the road to Cedar Rapids. The Fighting Saints will play three games, including two on the road, during their next week of play. Dubuque's only home game the rest of October is on the 19th against the Youngstown Phantoms.
