Flyers Steal Series

The Flyers fell into an early four run deficit, but they scored two runs in the 8th inning and another in the 9th to beat Yuma 7-6 at Desert Sun Stadium. The Flyers took the series and return home Friday to face the Reno Silver Sox .

Jesse Schmidt led off the top of the 9th inning by lining a single to left field in a 6-6 game. After a key error by Hector Tena, Trevor Hall drove a fly ball to right field to score Schmidt with the game-winning run. Down 5-1 in the 4th inning, Trevor Hall hit a monster three-run homerun to left center to pull the Flyers within a run.

Javier Lopez homered for Yuma to stretch the lead to 6-4.

With two outs and nobody on in the 8th inning, the Flyers got a walk from Hector Zamora and a single by Buddy Morales. Gabe Mayorga and Joe Frazee came through with clutch singles to drive in the tying runs.

Nick Casanova threw a strong 8th inning to earn the victory. Jon Grijalva survived a two-out rally in the 9th inning to earn his first save.

The Flyers took a 1-0 lead when Zamora drove in Rich Pohle with the first run of the game.

Todd Gelatka gave up five runs, only three earned, to get the no-decision.

Jeff Groeger will take to the mound at Goodwin Field Friday against Reno looking to drive the Flyers closer to first place.
