Fort Worth Flyers News Release
FORT WORTH, Texas, November 1 - The Fort Worth Flyers have announced the selection of returning NBA Development League players Garry Hill-Thomas, Antoine Landry, and George Williams from the D-League expansion draft. The players will participate in the Flyers training camp.
"We were able to get a solid group of returning players. The fact that these players have played in the D-League before and have a feel for the games and travel is especially exciting and will make a big difference for us," said head coach Sam Vincent.
Hill-Thomas and Landry both spent last season with the Roanoke Dazzle. Hill-Thomas appeared in 14 games, averaging 2.6 rebounds and 13.6 points. Landry played in 10 games for the Dazzle, averaging 5.6 points. Williams played for the Dazzle and the Fayetteville Patriots last season, averaging 2.1 rebounds and 4.6 points in 36 games with the Patriots.
"It is nice to be back in the D-League and to be able to play close to home," Williams said. "My family and friends made several trips to see me play last year when I played on the East Coast, but it is a blessing to be in Fort Worth so they will have more opportunities to come see me do what I love to do. I am looking forward to it and having the chance to work with Coach Vincent."
The team also announced that Anthony Terrell, the player selected from the local player tryout held in mid-October, will also take part in the Flyers training camp. Terrell played in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and played the second portion of the season with the Arkansas RimRockers, a former ABA and current D-League team.
The Flyers will add additional players to the training camp roster through the fifth annual NBA Development League Draft on Thursday, November 3. The Flyers will celebrate the inaugural season draft by holding a draft party at Fox and Hound English Bar & Grille, located at 604 Main Street in downtown Fort Worth.
The draft party provides a unique opportunity for basketball fans and media alike to have a bird's-eye view as head coach Sam Vincent makes his selections. The Flyers will have the third pick in each round of the draft.
In addition to draft proceedings, fans will enjoy prize giveaways and appearances by members of the FlyGirls, the 2005-06 dance team, and the team's official mascot. Flyers merchandise will also be on sale during the event.
"We are excited about the draft and the high caliber of players that are available. Getting more NBA-caliber players in the D-League is exciting for players and fans," said Vincent.
Headquarters for the official 2005 D-League draft is the league office in Greenville, S.C. The draft will take place via conference call over 10 rounds. NBA director of scouting Marty Blake, along with assistant director of scouting Ryan Blake, will team up with D-League director of basketball operations Chris Alpert to provide commentary via the conference call. The streaming audio can be heard by logging on to NBADLEAGUE.com.
The selection process will operate with each team having one pick in each of the 10 rounds. Teams will have up to three minutes to make a selection in each round. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to an NBA Development League Standard Player Contract are eligible to be selected.
