Tulsa 66ers News Release
TULSA, Okla., Nov. 1 - The Tulsa 66ers will take part in the 2005 edition of the NBA Development League Draft Thursday, November 3 at 6 p.m. The 66ers will host their first-ever Season Ticket Holder Draft Party at the Cherokee Casino & Resort, located at 777 W. Cherokee St. in Catoosa, doors open at 5 p.m. All season ticket holders are invited to attend and get a rare chance to be a part of Tulsa 66ers history and see the draft selection process first hand.
"The draft party officially kicks off the Tulsa 66ers season," said Joe Berry, team president. "The opportunity to experience the draft and watch the coaches hand-pick players is a unique opportunity for sports lovers. We look forward to a big crowd out [at the Cherokee Casino & Resort] for this event."
Headquarters for the official 2005 D-League draft takes place at the league office in Greenville, S.C., and team coaches and staff will participate via conference call over 10 rounds. Those in attendance to the Tulsa 66ers draft party will have the opportunity to listen in on head coach Joey Meyer and assistant coach Roy Rogers as they select hopefuls to make this year's team. NBA Director of Scouting, Marty Blake, along with assistant director of scouting Ryan Blake, will team up with D-League senior director of basketball operations Chris Alpert to provide commentary via the conference call. The streaming audio can be heard by logging on to NBADLEAGUE.com.
"Thursday is the first important day for our basketball team," said Meyer. "This is the time when the majority of our team will take shape, so coach Rogers and I have our work cut out for us."
Party attendees will also be able to hear team-by-team selections as well as receive instant analysis detailing all of the 66er's 2005 picks. Special guests on hand for the Tulsa 66ers draft party will be allocated and returning players. In addition to draft proceedings, fans will be entertained by the Lady Sixers dance team and the team's official mascot. Tulsa 66ers merchandise will also be on sale as fans enjoy games, trivia, free prizes and an open discussion on Tulsa 66ers draftees with team personnel.
The NBA D-League's fifth annual draft selection process will operate similar to previous years. Each team will have one pick in all 10 rounds. Teams will have three minutes to make their selection. If a team fails to make a selection in the allotted time, it will forfeit that selection and be given an additional selection at the end of the draft. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to a NBA D-League Standard Player Contract will be eligible to be drafted. The draft order is based upon how each team finished last season. The Florida Flame ended with the worst regular-season record last year, therefore, they draft first. Because the Tulsa 66ers retain the rights to the Asheville Altitude, who finished the regular season with the second best record, the team will draft seventh.
The 2005 NBA D-League Draft order:
Florida Flame
Fayetteville Patriots
Fort Worth Flyers
Arkansas RimRockers
Roanoke Dazzle
Albuquerque Thunderbirds
Tulsa 66ers
Austin Toros
The Tulsa 66ers tip off the 2005-06 regular season home-opener with back-to-back home games against the Albuquerque Thunderbirds Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19. Both games begin at 7 p.m. For ticket information, log on to tulsa66ers.com or call the ticket office at (918) 585-8444.
