Flyers Host Free Agent Tryouts

October 12, 2005 - NBA G League (G League)
Fort Worth Flyers News Release

FORT WORTH, TX, October 12, 2005 - Sam Vincent, seven-year NBA veteran and head coach of the Fort Worth Flyers, will conduct two sessions of open tryouts Saturday, Oct. 15 beginning at 8 a.m. at the University of Texas-Arlington located on 500 W. Nedderman in Arlington.

"I believe open tryouts provide a great opportunity for a local player to be a part of the NBA Dream and have a chance at realizing their goal of playing basketball against the best players in the world," said Vincent. "I am excited to get started with the process and look forward to seeing the competitive talent pool in this community."

The Flyers' open tryouts offer local athletes an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of D-League coaches and scouts while they compete to earn a position in the team's official training camp. Training camp is scheduled to begin on November 5.

Saturday sessions of the Flyers' open tryouts are open to the public and will provide exciting entertainment options for the entire family. In addition to watching players compete for a spot on the Fort Worth-based NBA Development League team, basketball fans can participate in fun basketball games with free prizes and giveaways, a 3-point and dunk contest, and enjoy a performance from the Flyers' new dance and cheer team. Plus, local hip-hop radio station KBFB 97.9 FM The Beat will broadcast live from 5-7 p.m. featuring on-air personality Roc-T and disc jockey C-Note.

Tryouts are limited to the first 100 players per session and up to 30 players from Saturday's sessions will be invited back to a special session on Sunday. Applicants must be at least 20 years of age and may pre-register by submitting the official registration, disclosure, and release forms, along with a $125 nonrefundable fee by 5 p.m. on Oct. 12.

Applications are available at www.fwflyers.com or the Flyers office located at 512 Main St., Fort Worth, TX 76102. All applicants to register after the pre-registration deadline will be subjected to a $150 nonrefundable fee. No incomplete registrations will be accepted.

"This is not only a tremendous opportunity for the top athletes in Dallas/Fort Worth to showcase their talent, but also a chance for the fans to see how high the level of competition will be in the Development League," said team president Todd Speer. "There are some great NBA players like Avery Johnson and Ben Wallace who started their NBA careers as un-drafted free agents. I hope we can find that next diamond in the rough."

The Flyers' home opener is Wednesday, Nov. 23 against the Tulsa 66ers at 7 p.m. at the Fort Worth Convention Center. The inaugural season begins with back-to-back road games on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19, against the Roanoke Dazzle and Fayetteville Patriots, respectively.

Season ticket packages are available now and offer numerous options for personal and/or corporate entertainment needs. For ticket information log on to fwflyers.com or call 817-698-8333.
