Orange County Flyers News Release

The Orange County Flyers are traveling to Maui today for the final regular season series against Na Koa Ikaika starting on Tuesday, August 31. The Flyers will play seven games over seven days against Maui before beginning the divisional round of the playoffs against the first-half South Division winners in Maui on Tuesday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 8. The teams will travel back to Orange County for Game 3 of the best-of-five series on Friday, September 10 at Goodwin Field with Games 4 and 5 to be played on Saturday and Sunday also in Fullerton if necessary.

The Flyers are coming off a four-game sweep of the Tijuana Cimarrones this weekend at Goodwin Field, finishing the season 14-0 in 14 games against the expansion franchise. OC took two games against the Cimarrones in a doubleheader Saturday in the final home games of the regular season. Pitcher Manny Ayala threw two scoreless innings of relief for a league-leading 13th win, a new league record for wins in a season, as OC won 5-1 in Game 1, and Julian Benavidez blasted two homeruns as the Flyers scored 8 unanswered runs for an 8-4 win in Game 2.

With the South Division series match up set, Orange County will get a week's worth of games to prepare against their playoff opponent at Iron Maehara Stadium in Maui. Maui won the South Division first half championship in the GBL, and only OC and Maui can finish with the best record in the second half. The Flyers clinched a playoff berth on Thursday by securing at least the second-best overall record in the GBL South this season, meaning that even if Maui, not Orange County, wins the second half, the Flyers would still make the playoffs as the second-best overall team in the division in 2010.

Playoff tickets and information are availble by calling the Flyers front office at (714) 526-8326 or by visiting the team's website at www.OrangeCountyFlyers.com .
