Caps Drop Both Games of Doubleheader Against Tucson

Edmonton Capitals News Release
Tucson, AZ - On Saturday night, it was a monsoon that washed away the Edmonton Capitals and Tucson Toros, and prevented the teams from playing their scheduled Golden Baseball League game. But it was the Toros who washed away the Caps on Sunday, sweeping their double-header.
After a heavy rain storm bombarded southern Arizona on Saturday, the Caps and Toros had their game suspended and moved to Sunday as part of a double-header, with each game abbreviated to seven innings. Tucson dominated the double dip, winning the opener 8-1 and taking the finale 5-4 to win all four games in their series versus Edmonton.
The Toros scored seven of their eight runs in the first two innings of the first game, as Caps starting pitcher Daryl Arreola only lasted 1.2 innings and gave up seven earned runs. First baseman Cristobal Santana did the most damage for the Toros, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Left fielder Larry Bigbie scored the lone Edmonton run.
The second game of the night was much closer, but it still resulted in a loss for the visitors. Once again, Tucson did their damage early, scoring four of their five runs in the first three innings. Paced by a home run from right fielder Kevin House, the Caps tied it up 4-4 in the fifth, but third baseman Wally Backman Jr. knocked in the winning run for the Toros with a walk-off single in the seventh.
With four straight losses to the Toros, the Caps dropped to 18-20 in the second half and sit six games back of the first-place Calgary Vipers (24-14) in the North Division with one week left in the regular season. The Victoria Seals and Chico Outlaws are tied for second with 21-16 records.
The Caps return home for a three-game series against the Seals, Tuesday through Thursday at TELUS Field, with all three games starting at 7 p.m. The opener is another edition of Family Vision Care Tuesdays, as all-you-can-drink slushes are just $2. Edmonton's East Park Orioles, who recently represented Canada at the Senior Little League World Series, will be throwing the ceremonial first pitches before the game.
The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats for 2011 are now available, and fans who purchase them before Sept. 2 will received a bat autographed by the entire team. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
