Fort Worth Flyers News Release
FORT WORTH, Texas December 1, 2005 - The Fort Worth Flyers narrowly missed the chance to win their rematch with the Arkansas RimRockers as they fell 106-103 to the RimRockers for their second straight home loss.
"I am encouraged with the fight in our team, but we must execute down the stretch if we want to win these close games," said Flyers head coach Sam Vincent.
Both teams came out of the gate hot as they traded baskets for most of the first quarter. Flyers center Luke Schenscher was in early foul trouble which left the paint open for the RimRockers' Pape Sow. Sow scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the first half.
The Flyers trailed by seven at halftime but battled hard through the third quarter. Led by Ime Udoka's 11 points, the Flyers rallied to tie the game at 75 with a quarter to go. In a back and forth final quarter, neither team could pull away as there were eight ties and 13 lead changes.
With 54 seconds remaining the Flyers led 101-100, but forward Anthony Terrell missed two free throws giving the RimRockers life. Kareem Reid gave the RimRockers a three-point advantage with 7.1 seconds left after he nailed a pair of free throws. The Flyers had one final opportunity to extend the game into overtime, but Brandon Robinson's last second 3-pointer clanked off the rim and the RimRockers escaped Fort Worth with the victory. It was the RimRockers' second consecutive victory over the Flyers at the Fort Worth Convention Center as the last game for both teams was the RimRockers' 112-102 win over the Flyers on November 27.
Udoka led the Flyers with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Deji Akindele contributed 20 points and 6 rebounds, and Brandon Robinson added 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Arkansas was led by Sow's 25 points and 14 rebounds. Myron Allen and Reid had 17 and 16 points respectively, and Reid also dealt 7 assists on the night. Clay Tucker, Shawnson Johnson and Harvey Thomas all contributed 10 points.
The Flyers fell to 3-3 and will have a week to prepare for their next game against the Florida Flame on December 8. The RimRockers improved to 2-1 and will take on the Albuquerque Thunderbirds on Dec. 2 at home.
