Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release
HIDALGO, TX: June 21, 2005 - arenafootball2 announced their weekly awards for Week 12 action and Rio Grande Valley Dorados wide receiver / defensive back Marquis Floyd earned US Army Ironman of the Week honors.
Floyd, a 6'0 190-pound second-year pro out of the University of West Georgia, was a valuable asset offensively and defensively for the Dorados, who defeated the Central Valley Coyotes 55-36. On offense, Floyd led the Dorados in receiving (7 receptions for 73 yards and 3 touchdowns), rushing (2 carries for 5 yards and a touchdown) and all-purpose yards with 102 yards. His four touchdowns and 24 points of offense tied franchise single-game marks. Defensively, Floyd registered two of the Dorados franchise single-game record 4 interceptions to go along with a tackle and 2 pass break-ups. Floyd also passed former Dorado Manwell Talbert in receiving yards with 898 yards to become the Dorados all-time leader in career receiving yards and single-season receiving yards. He currently ranks second on the squad in all-purpose yards with 1,142.
The honor is the first received by Floyd in his career and is the second time this season a Dorados member has received the US Army Ironman of the Week honor. Floyd's honor marks the fifth time a Dorados member has been recognized this season for an af2 weekly award. Defensive specialist Norman Mason earned ADT Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 8 and 9, Chris Robinson claimed the US Army Ironman award in Week 4 and Dwight Counter earned the Offensive Player of the Week award last week (Week 11). It is the fourth week out of the previous five that a Dorados member has been awarded by a weekly league honor. The five awards are two more than the overall amount of weekly awards the Dorados earned last season. Karleton Thomas received ADT Defensive Player of the Game in Week 1 and Eddie Motten received the same honor for Week 14 and 18 of last season. Media members seeking an interview with Floyd and/or Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy are encouraged to contact Chris Due with the Dorados at 956-843-5656.
The Dorados next home game will is July 23rd, as the Dorados host the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz at Chase Field inside the Dodge Arena. Individual tickets for the game and all other home games are already on sale. Additional info can also be found by visiting the Dorados online at www.doradosfootball.com.
