Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release

FLORENCE, SC – Florence Pride Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Perry Florio will trade in his hockey stick and skates for a baseball glove and a pair of cleats on Sunday. Florio has been chosen to throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans game at Coastal Federal Field in Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans host the Frederick Keys on Sunday, with the first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m.

Since arriving in Florence last month, Florio has been busy getting out in the community. Earlier this week, he appeared on two afternoon radio shows, and spoke about initial recruiting efforts for the 2003-2004 season, and what kind of team Pride fans can expect to see on the ice this season. He also joined a local softball league, and will begin playing games next week.

"In my opinion, it is extremely important to get involved in the community," Florio said. "All of the people I have met so far have gone out of their way to be friendly, not only to myself, but to my family as well. As the summer winds down and we head into hockey season, I am looking forward to getting to know more Pride fans on a more personal level."

Full-season tickets, mini-packages and flex-plan vouchers for the 2003-2004 season are now available. For more information, or to place your order, visit the Pride offices, located at the Florence Civic Center, or call (843) 669-7825.

The Pride open their seventh season in Florence on Saturday, October 18, hosting the Columbia Inferno at 7:30 p.m. Group tickets for opening night are now available. Groups of 20 or more can get discounted tickets, and have their name printed in the game-day program and announced over the public-address system. For more information on the Pride group package, call the Pride at (843) 669-7825.
