Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- Florida's Steve Gorrie will attempt to grab his own share of af2 history this Saturday when the Florida Firecats (8-5) host the Laredo Law (3-10).
Steve Gorrie currently sits at second on the af2's all-time single season rushing record list. Gorrie has already pounded out 421 yards on the turf, only 19 yards shy of breaking Hawaii's Darnell Arceneux's 439-yard record that he set in 2002.
"It would be a great team accomplishment," Gorrie commented in regards to the record. "Without those other guys on the field, it would not be possible.
"To be honest, though, I would take winning a ring over anything."
Gorrie is currently averaging 33.8 yards a game. He is on pace to reach 518 rushing yards before the conclusion of the regular season. Laredo's defense gives up 26.6 rushing yards a game on average, so the breaking of the record seems to be imminent.
Still Gorrie remains focused on what must be done in order for the Firecats to walk out of Germain Arena as the victors on Saturday night.
" We need to come out and play for 60 minutes," Gorrie said. "In this league, anybody can beat anybody.
"If we limit penalties and mistakes, our talent will rise above."
After knocking off the Birmingham Steeldogs 55-28 last Saturday night, the Firecats will take the series tiebreaker from the Steeldogs. If the Firecats win their remaining three games, and the Steeldogs lose one more contest, then the Firecats will take the American South Division crown. They would also receive a first round bye in the playoffs.
During halftime on Saturday, there will be a special presentation by the Miami Dolphin cheerleaders. Prior to the game, the Dolphin cheerleaders will also be on hand for autographs and photo opportunities.
Great group rates are available for Saturday's contest. Come be part of history as Steve Gorrie attempts to break the arenafootball2 all-time single season rushing title. Call (239) 390-2287 today to get your seats!
