
Florida Tops Asheville 108-98 Behind Haston's Season-High 30 Points

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Kirk Haston scored a career high 30 points and Smush Parker recorded his fourth double-double with 17 points and 10 assists helping the Florida Flame (12-27) earn their first win over the Asheville Altitude this season 108-98 in front of 1,599 fans at Germain Arena. Asheville was led by Lenny Stokes' 26 points and seven assists.
Asheville broke out to an early 28-21 first quarter lead behind the strong play of Terrence Shannon and Joe Forte, who combined for half of the Altitude's first quarter points.
The Flame used an 11-2 run early in the second quarter and outscored the Altitude 31-23 in the quarter to take a one point lead into halftime 52-51. Flame center Jeff Aubry, playing for the injured Hiram Fuller, scored eight of his season-high 12 points in the period to lead all scorers.
Florida opened the third period on an 8-0 run , but Ashville responded with runs of 8-1 and 11-2 midway through the period to gain a 79-74 lead at the break.
The fourth quarter proved to be the turning point, as the Flame outscored the Altitude 34-19 in the period on 67-percent shooting from the floor. Florida also turned on the defensive pressure on in the period as Asheville connected on only six of 17 attempts from the floor for 35-percent.
Byron Mouton added 13 points and Tim Pickett added 10 for the Flame.
For Asheville, Joe Forte scored 17, Ron Slay added 16, and Terrence Shannon scored 14 in the loss.
The two teams will face each other again tomorrow night at Germain Arena. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
