Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, ME - Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon today announced that the Panthers have recalled forward Logan Shaw from the Portland Pirates. In a separate transaction, the Panthers also reassigned defenseman Dylan Olsen to Portland.

Shaw, a 6-foot-3, 204 pound right wing from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, has played in all five games for Portland so far this season. The 23 year-old has two goals and two points, both scored on the power play in the Pirates' home opening 3-2 victory over the Hershey Bears on October 17.

This is Shaw's first ever recall to the NHL. The 23 year-old is in his third professional season. He has played a total of 139 games as a pro with Portland and the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. Shaw was drafted by Florida in the Third Round (76th Overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Shaw becomes the first player recalled from Portland by the Florida Panthers since the new affiliation began over the summer. He will be available to make his NHL debut for the Panthers tomorrow night as they host the Boston Bruins at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.

Olsen, a 6-foot-2, 223 pound defenseman from Salt Lake City, Utah is in his sixth pro season. The 24 year-old began the season with the Panthers, but has yet to play in a game. He spent most of last season in the NHL with Florida, playing 44 games while scoring two goals and six assists for eight points. Olsen also played 12 games for San Antonio last season, scoring a goal and two assists for three points. Olson also picked up a goal in two Calder Cup Playoff games for the Rampage in 2014-15.

A First Round selection (28th Overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Olsen turned pro after playing a season-and-a-half of NCAA Division I Men's Hockey for the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. He has also played for the Blackhawks in the NHL and the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL.

Olsen will be eligible to make his Pirates debut tomorrow night as Portland takes on the Providence Bruins from the Dunkin Donuts Center at 7:05 p.m. You can hear "Voice of the Pirates" Jeff Mannix call all the action beginning with the Pirates Pregame Show at 6:45 on the WPEI Portland Pirates Radio Network, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, on 95.9/95.5 FM, and the Listen Live link at portlandpirates.com.
