Florida Everblades News Release
READING, PA - In a wild game one, the Reading Royals beat the Florida Everblades 7-6. Mike Bayrack's five-point effort (3g, 2a) weren't enough for Florida as Reading took a 1-0 edge in the best-of-seven second round series. ECHL post-season leading scorer Milan Gajic (1g, 3a), captain Ross Carlson (1g, 2a) and Bayrack accounted for 12 of the Everblades 18 points in the contest. Game Two will be tomorrow night in Reading at 7:05 p.m.
The Florida Everblades fell behind early and often in game one in Reading, Pennsylvania. Turnovers hurt the âBlades in the first stanza as Reading's Aaron Brocklehurst and Jared Ross scored goals 1:31 apart early in the game to put the Royals up 2-0. Reading's first two shots found the back of the net forcing starting netminder Chris Beckford-Tseu to the bench in favor of rookie Adrien Lemay. Lemay stopped six of eight shots to finish the period as Florida trailed 4-2 after the first period. The Everblades markers came off the stick of Milan Gajic and Mike Bayrack. Reading's other first period markers were scored by Olivier Labelle and Marc Cavosie.
The Everblades dominated the second period of play outscoring the Royals 3-0. Ross Carlson, Ryan Lang and Mike Bayrack accounted for the Everblade tallies as Florida went one-of-two on the power play in the second stanza. With the late power play goal by Mike Bayrack, the Everblades took their first lead of the game to the final period at 5-4.
Florida extended their lead to two goals on Mike Bayrack's hat trick power-play tally 2:53 into the third. Milan Gajic and Scott Hotham picked up the assists as Florida led 6-4 with 17:07 to play. Reading scored to make it a one-goal game 1:35 after the Bayrack goal on Ryan Cruthers rebound tally. The Royals evened up the contest less than two minutes later on Olivier Labelle's second tally of the evening. The game would remain deadlocked until 14:37 of the third. The Royals forced Florida to scramble in their zone and recaptured the lead on Jared Ross' second goal of the evening. Ross, appearing in his first game with Reading, tallied twice and was named the #1 star. Reading out shot the âBlades 13-8 in the third and handed Florida their first regulation loss of the season when leading after two periods of play.
