
Florida Firecats Remain Third in American Conference Playoff Standings

Estero, FL- After a much-needed and long-awaited bye week, the Florida Firecats remained in third place in the American Conference in the playoff standings the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today.
The South Division leading Firecats (8-3) now sit a half-game behind Midwest Division leader Green Bay (9-3) and a game and a half behind the East Division champion Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (10-2). Florida squares off against the Pioneers this Saturday night at Germain Arena. A Florida win coupled with a Manchester loss Friday night against Albany would clinch the Firecats seventh straight playoff birth.
The âCats are one of three South Division teams in the top five of the conference standings. Tennessee Valley and South Georgia hold the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Eight teams in each conference qualify for the af2 playoffs, with games being played at the highest seed. The conference winners will square off in the ArenaCup, the championship game of af2, which will be held at the venue of the participating team with the best overall record. The Firecats hosted the ArenaCup in 2004, the year the team won its only af2 championship.
