Windsor Spitfires News Release

After a disappointing outcome last night in Windsor, the Spits looked to bounce back and turn the tables on the road as they headed up to Flint. This game once again held heavy indications for any chance at a late season playoff push.

The 1st period would be opened up with a Noah Morneau wrap-around goal, as #11 would score his 11th of the season. Only a few minor penalties would be assessed to Windsor as Connor Toms and Noah Morneau were both sent to the box for holding and high sticking. Eventually, Flint would strike late in the period thanks to Markas Samenas and would tie it up at 1.

The start of the 2nd period was rough for the Spitfires, as Simon Slavicek would give Flint the lead just 29 seconds into the frame. Minutes later, Windsor would be awarded a power play however, former Spitfire Oliver Peer would break in the Windsor zone shorthanded and beat Costanzo to make it 3-1. From there things continued to get worse, as Tristan Bertucci would tap in a loose puck with none of the Spits knowing where the puck was. After almost 10 minutes of stagnant hockey, Ryan Abraham would crash the net and be awarded a goal despite two separate reviews for a goal, and goaltender interference. The Spits continued their newfound momentum as LaSalle Vipers call up, Nathan Gaymes would score his first OHL goal in his debut game! It seemed as if the Spits would head into the locker room down 1, but Windsor would get caught sleeping again, as Nolan Dann marched his way in and put Flint up 5-3 with just 29 seconds remaining.

Once again the Spits get caught flat footed early in the frame, as Coulson Pitre scores 25 seconds into the frame and extend their lead to 6-3. Nathan Gaymes would soon after get his first penalty in the OHL as he was assessed a trip. Flint would then take advantage and further extend their lead to 4 goals early in the 3rd. As tensions began to rise, AJ Spellacy would be instigated by, and drop the mitts with Daks Klinkhammer. Spellacy would get the better of the fight, and Windsor would also be awarded a power play due to the instigation. Despite numerous power play opportunities, the Spits would unfortunately finish the night 0/4 on the man advantage.

Another tough night for the boys as the Spits fall 7-3, and their playoff hopes slip further and further out of reach. There's still an entire month of hockey left to be played, but there's little to no margin of error left for Windsor to make. Windsor will be back in action on Sunday against Mississauga at home.
