Flint Generals announce assistant coach, athletic trainer and equipment manager

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals, proud members of the IHL and Double 'A' affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings announced today that Steve Pronger as re-joined the team as an Associate Coach for the 08-09 season. Pronger, a Windsor, Ontario native, was an Assistant Coach last year with the Generals and previously spent two years as an Assistant Coach with the University of Windsor.

"I'm happy to be back with the Flint Generals and working towards developing the players so we can have a successful season" said Pronger. "I'm excited to be working with Coach South to develop a team that is both exciting for the fans to watch, extremely successful in the standings, and of course, challenging for the Turner Cup at the end of the season".

The Generals also announced their Equipment Manager and Athletic Trainer for the 08-09 season. The Generals have brought back Chris Steirwalt as the team's equipment manager for the second straight year. The California native spent a week at the Detroit Red Wings Training Camp in Traverse City prior to arriving in Flint. Stierwalt has previous experience in baseball and prior hockey experience with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL. He has also worked with the Bakersfield Blitz of the AF2.

Jason Wallace will be the team's new Athletic Trainer. Wallace, a native of Belleville, Michigan who now resides in Ypsilanti, spent the past two years with the Huntsville Hospital Therapy and Sports Center. While at Huntsville Hospital, Wallace worked with Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League and the Tennessee Valley Vipers of the AF2. He won an AF2 championship earlier this summer with the Vipers in the final at Spokane, Washington. Wallace is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and also spent four years in the Marine Corps. He is married to his wife Angie and they have two children Brittany, 13, and Cade, 8.

Training camp for the 08-09 Flint Generals begins this Monday when the club will then travel to Saginaw Valley State University on Monday morning to take part in physical testing with the Kinesiology Department. The Generals will hit the ice on Tuesday and Wednesday with on-ice practices at Perani Arena and Event Center from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Fans are reminded that there will be a Blue-Gold Game on Thursday, Oct. 9 beginning at 7 pm. Admission and parking will be free, but fans are asked to bring art and school supplies for needy students across Genesee County. The Generals' players will deliver those supplies at a later date during the season.

The Generals then will play two exhibition games against the Port Huron Ice hawks on Friday, Oct. 10 and Saturday, Oct. 11. The Saturday game is set for Perani Arena and Event Center at 7:30 pm. Tickets for that game are just $5.

Season Tickets and Flex Tickets for the 08-09 season are still available for purchase. Season Tickets allow fans the same seat for all 36 home games. Flex Tickets are a great way to see Generals' games this season, giving fans 12 end-zone tickets for the price of 10.
