ASHEVILLE, N.C., Dec. 13 â Lonnie Harrell led three Huntsville Flight players in double figures with 13 points in a 62-55 NBDL victory over the Asheville Altitude here Friday night.
The Flight improved its first-place record to 8-4 on the year as they snapped a three-game road losing streak in the process. Asheville lost for the second straight time to fall to 6-7.
Joining Harrell in double-figure scoring for the Flight was Brandon Williams and Mike Wilks who each tallied 12 points. Jeff Trepagnier paced the Altitude with 19 points, while Eddie Gill and Paul Grant tallied 10 apiece.
The Flight set new defensive standards in the game by setting Huntsville records for fewest points surrendered in a game, fewest field goals allowed (19) and lowest opponent field goal percentage (25.7 percent) as Asheville hit just 19-of-74 shots.
The game, though, was tied at 35-apiece midway through the 3rd quarter when the Flight broke it open with a 9-0 run. Williams and Harrell each hit 3-pointers during the spurt, while Wilks added a layup and Bakari Hendrix tallied free throw.
The lead stretched to as many as 15 points at 59-44 with 4:24 to go after a Harrell jumper, but the Altitude outscored the visitors 11-1 over the next three minutes to close the gap down the stretch.
Wilks then iced the contest with 40.8 seconds remaining with a pair of free throws to complete the scoring.
The Flight now returns to action Saturday night when the play host to the Columbus Riverdragons at the Von Braun Center in a 7:30 p.m. contest. Free Flight visors will be given away to the first 750 fans in attendance and it will also be "Scout Night with the Flight" as over 600 Cub and Boy Scouts are expected for the game and then an overnight camp out in the VBC.
