Revelers Send Riverdragons Reeling Again

December 13, 2002 - NBA G League (G League)
Columbus Riverdragons News Release

COLUMBUS, Ga., (Dec. 13) – Guards Sean Colson and Isaac Fontaine combined for 32 points, hitting 4-of-5 three-pointers to pace the Mobile Revelers past the Columbus Riverdragons, 88-80, in front of 2,512 fans and scouts from three NBA teams at the Columbus Civic Center.

Colson hit his second three-pointer of the night to put the Revelers up 10, 85-75 with 2:31 to play in the fourth quarter. The Riverdragons would fail to cut the lead closer than eight points before time expired. The Riverdragons shot 26.3% in the final quarter hitting just 5-of-19 shots. The Revelers led 68-66 at the end of the third quarter.

"We had a drought and couldn't hit shots," said Riverdragons forward Jermaine Walker. "They bring a lot of intensity and make thing happen. There are not too many teams in the league that can do what they do."

The Revelers shot a blistering 54.8% from the floor and were even hotter from three-point land, knocking down 5-of-9 three-pointers (55.6% 3FG%). Colson led seven Mobile players in double-figures with 18 points. Fontaine, the league's leading scorer last season, enjoyed his best all-around game this season hitting 6-of-9 shots from the floor (including 2-of-3 three-pointers) for a season-high 14 points and four assists.

Bobby Simmons (11), Derek Hood (10), Ernest Brown (10), Shea Seals (10), and Eugene Edgerson (10) rounded out the Revelers scoring. Hood added 10 rebounds to post a double-double.

The Riverdragons were led by Nate Johnson's game-high 21 points. Johnson, the league's leading scorer since November 21, has posted 20-plus points six times in ten games this season. Johnson has led the Riverdragons in scoring a team-high seven times. Walker and Sean Peterson added 14 and 10 points respectively for Columbus.

The Riverdragons received a solid performance from newcomer Tyrone Washington, who had 10 points and five rebounds over 21 minutes in his team debut. Washington, a three-year pro out of Mississippi St. was acquired by the Riverdragons on Wednesday.

The two teams have recently been headed in different directions. The Revelers (5-4) have won five of their last six games while the Riverdragons (4-6), in contrast, have dropped five of their last six. The Revelers have won two of their three meetings against the Riverdragons – including two straight – with both of Mobile's victories coming in Columbus.

"I've got to play mind games," said Riverdragons head coach Jeff Malone. "I've got to do whatever it takes to keep these guys going. We just to have start making plays. We played good for three quarters and then stopped making plays. It will get better, though."

The Riverdragons have little time to be overly introspective. Columbus faces the first place Huntsville Flight Saturday night at the Von Braun Center. The Revelers head home to host the red-hot Greenville Groove at the Mobile Civic Center Saturday night.

Tonight's game was played in front of over 1,500 soldiers from nearby Ft. Benning. During the first quarter break, the Riverdragons presented Captain Ed Smith with holiday gifts to be distributed among the families of First Battalion, 29th Infantry.
