Flight hang on to victory over struggling Dazzle

March 26, 2005 - NBA G League (G League)
Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va. – The Huntsville Flight defeated the Roanoke Dazzle 90-87 Saturday night at the Roanoke Civic Center in NBDL action. Huntsville (23-19) was led by Jason Miskiri with 18 points and 6 assists, while the Dazzle (25-18), who has lost 5 of their last six games, saw Casey Sanders come off the bench with a season-high 21 points plus 8 rebounds and 6 blocks.

With the Flight outscoring the second-place Dazzle in the first three quarters, Huntsville seemed to have a firm grasp on things. As the Dazzle have had a few overtime games as of late, things started to look familiar with Roanoke pulling within three points after a Sung-Yoon Bang three-pointer with :39 left in the game. Tough defense kept a Miskiri 17-footer from falling and James Thomas secured his 14th rebound of the game. Oddly enough however Seth Doliboa, shooting only .105 from the field, put up an off-balanced three that missed badly but was deflected out of bounds off of former Virginia Tech standout Bryant Matthews. With only :01left, Bang, who was 4 for 8 from three point territory, put up a last second prayer but was blocked by Cedric Henderson.

"Our desire and fight is really good," said Roanoke Head Coach Kent Davison. "It's just disappointing. We had a chance and it gets old (losing). I still like the desire they show each and every night."

James Thomas picked up a little bit of ground on league leading glass cleaner Rodney Bias as the Dazzle forward out rebounded his rebounding rival 14-11. Thomas had another double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds while Sung-Yoon Bang dropped 18. Sherman Gay, coming off of a season high game Tuesday night against Asheville, added 13 points himself.

Austin Nichols supported Miskiri's team high 18 points by contributing 17, while Earl Barron had 12 despite himself and fellow big man Bias having five fouls each in the third quarter. Adam Parada followed his teammates with 10 points and Bryant Matthews kept in pace with seven points and 10 rebounds.

"We had our bigs get in early foul trouble," said Flight Head Coach Ralph Lewis. "We had to make adjustments and go to a smaller lineup."

Roanoke takes on the first place Columbus Riverdragons at the Roanoke Civic Center at 7:00 on Wednesday March 30 while Huntsville takes on the Asheville Altitude Tuesday March 29 at 7:00. For more information log on to www.nbdl.com or visit www.roanokedazzle.com.
