Florida Flight News Release
(Avalon Park, FL) - The Florida Flight avenged their season opening loss, beating the Gainesville Galaxy 96-88 in their second meeting, picking up their first home win of the 2011 season.
The Flight, missing their starting point guard and leading scorer Ernest Jones, led throughout most of the game, extending their lead to as much as a 25 points in the third quarter. The Galaxy fought back strong, pulling within three in the fourth quarter, thanks to a barrage of three pointers from Kevin Roulhac and Gerard Jackson. The Flight's Jacob Carver, Kamar Russell and Jonathan Adamson sealed the victory by hitting all of their freethrows.
"We need to do a better job closing out games, but a win is a win," said Flight Head Coach Mark King.
Roulhac led all scorers with 22 points. Gerard Jackson also added 21 for the Galaxy.
For two new Flight faces, the win against the Galaxy was extra special. Guards Fred Meeks and Brandon Armistead were released by the Galaxy earlier this week before getting picked up by the Flight.
"There was a lot of emotion and intensity when Brandon and Fred took the court," said King. "I'm sure this win felt even better for them!"
Meeks made his leadership presence felt, finishing with a team high 19 points while helping the Flight to their first home win of the season. Armistead pitched in 14. The Flight's Kamar Russell also had a breakout game, finishing with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The two teams meet again Sunday, May 28th in Gainesville. The game will be held at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Multipurpose Center. Tip-off is slated for 4:00pm.
