3rd Annual Florida Flight Toys for Tots Game Announced

November 29, 2012 - Continental Basketball League (CBL) - Florida Flight News Release

(Orlando, FL) - The Florida Flight will hold their 3rd Annual Toys for Tots Charity Basketball Game on Sunday, December 9th in the beautiful community of Avalon Park.

This year's game will be played at Avalon Middle School, located at 13914 Mailer Boulevard in Orlando. Tip-off is slated for 6:00pm. The doors will open at 5:30pm.

In keeping with tradition, admission to the contest is again free for each individual that brings an unwrapped children's toy to donate. The toys will be collected by Marines representing Toys for Tots and subsequently distributed to underprivileged children to brighten their holidays.

For the third straight year, the Palm Beach Titans are providing the opposition. The two teams have split the Toys for Tots series, with the Flight winning last year's game convincingly by a score of 129-92.

"This has turned into quite a rivalry," said King, who will hand over the coaching duties and play in the charity event. "It'll be fun to come out of retirement and give my daughter a chance to see her Daddy play!"

Newly appointed Assistant Coach Rebekah Day will assume head coaching duties for the contest, making her the first female to coach in the Florida Basketball Association. Currently a senior point guard for Southeastern University, she will also be the youngest.

"I'm thankful that Coach King presented me with such a fantastic opportunity," said Day. "My goal is to transition into coaching after I'm done playing at Southeastern, so this will be a great experience for me."

Game time festivities will also include pictures with Santa, courtesy of Smiling Butterflies, a ministry for homeless children providing daycare and educational assistance to families, and Inspirations by A & A Photography. The pictures are just $5.00, but also free with an additional donated toy.

"Investing in the lives of others is what this team is all about," said King. "We still float under the radar a bit, but we continually put our mission statement in action. We want to be a team that Avalon Park can proudly support!"

The Florida Flight is a member team of the Florida Basketball Association.
