Roanoke Dazzle News Release
ROANOKE, Va., Feb. 22â Mikki Moore recorded his eleventh double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to give Roanoke their eighteenth victory of the season. The Dazzle outscored the Flight every quarter except the first to win 91-75 in front of 3,211 fans at the Roanoke Civic Center.
Roanoke trailed 21-16 after one, before cranking up the defense against Huntsville. The Flight was held to only 27.3 percent shooting from the field in the second quarter. Roanoke also began to hit shots. After shooting 26.7 percent in the first, the Dazzle were able to hit 10-16, for 62.5 percent.
"We have been laying back defensively," said Roanoke Dazzle head coach Kent Davison. "I made a vow that I was going to stop yelling at the referees and start yelling at our players. I want to see our guys start doing things defensively better than they have. Today was a good start."
Moore was one of four Dazzle players in double figures. He blocked three shots, dished out six assists, and had two steals to go along with his 18 points and 12 boards. Cory Alexander was the high man for the game scoring 25 points. Terrence Shannon had 19 and Mike King added 12 off the bench.
Huntsville had three players reach double figures. A.J. Guyton had a team high 18 points. Lonnie Harrell finished with 16 and Demetric Shaw added 11. Huntsville newcomer and former University of Virginia star, Curtis Staples scored two points in seven minutes after joining the team last night.
"I thought we took some ill-advised shots," said Huntsville Flight head coach Ralph Lewis. "We shot a very bad shooting percentage. We just took some tough shots and allowed them to get back in the ball game. Cory Alexander and Mikki Moore just got hot in the end and took over the game."
Huntsville shot 35.1 percent, 26-74, from the field to go along with 73.3 percent, 22-30 from the line. The Flight also hit 1-9, 11.1 percent, from three-point land.
Roanoke shot 57.6 percent, 38-66, from the field to go along with 68.4 percent, 13-19 from the line. The Dazzle also hit 2-8, 25 percent, from three-point land.
