Westchester Flames News Release
New Rochelle, NY - 06/17/2004 - The Westchester Flames visit the New Jersey Stallions on Saturday, June 19th, 7:30 PM in Wayne, NJ. The Flames (4-2-2, 14 points) sit in second place in the Pro Soccer League Northern Division. The Stallions (3-4-1, 10 points) are in 6th place in the Premier Development League Northeast Division.
The last time these two teams met, the game went to penalty kicks to determine who advanced to the 2003 PSL national championship match. This time, the two teams are in differnt leagues, with the Stallions having dropped to the PDL. However, as the US Open Cup matches have shown so far, PDL teams can be tough to beat.
After defeating the Wilmington Hammerheads last Saturday, the Flames must put all their focus into this game, and not rest on their laurels. The mental factor will be huge for several players who suffered lingering injuries in 2003 during the trip to Wayne. Overcome this and the Flames should be fine.
Looking ahead, the Flames return home on Saturday, June 26th, 5:30 PM, at City Park Stadium, New Rochelle, NY, to entertain the Harrisburg City Islanders.
In other news, USL honored two more Flames' players this week when both goalkeeper Guillermo Valencia and midfielder Alex Tobon Villa were included in the PSL Week 9 Team of the Week.
