Westchester Flames News Release

New Rochelle, NY - 08/04/2004 - The Westchester Flames prepare for their final home game of the regular season this Saturday, August 7th, against the Western Mass Pioneers. Kick off is slated for 5:35 PM at City Park Stadium in New Rochelle.

In what has become a one game season for the Flames, they must win one of their remaining three games to be guaranteed a place in the playoffs that begin in two weeks. Any combination of wins by the Flames and losses by the New Hampshire Phantoms, and mathematically, the Flames could win the Northern Division. However, if the Flames lose all three of their remaining games, they will not make the playoffs.

Coach Gus Skoufis says, "It's come down to one game, one season."

Practices this week have focused on the finishing problems the Flames have experienced many times this season. Team leading scorer Evaud Thompson looks to increase his total and pass league leading Jacob Coggins of the Charlotte Eagles. Coggins has 15 goals; Thompson has 13. Both teams have three games remaining.

Gates open at 4:30 PM, with tickets going on sale at that time. Adults $8.00, youth $5.00, children under 5 are free. Refreshments and Flames merchandise is available at the field.

Three Flames players were honored by USL for their performances this past weekend. Evaud Thompson was named to the Pro Soccer League Team of the Week for his 4th time. Goalkeeper Guillermo Valencia was honored for the eight saves he had against Western Mass, and defender Julian Kapaj for his strong play in the same game. Congratulations to all these players.

In other news, the Flames would like to extend their condolences to two of their players, Chikudi and Kwame Richardson, whose father passed away last Saturday. Details about the services have not yet been released.
