City Islanders Acquire Goalkeeper on Loan

June 17, 2004 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

Harrisburg, PA – The Harrisburg City Islanders have acquired goalkeeper Chris Doyle on loan from the A-League's Charleston Battery, it was announced on Thursday. Doyle will spend at least the weekend with the City Islanders, as they take on the Long Island Rough Riders at home (Friday, 7:35 p.m.) and hit the road to face the Reading Rage (Saturday, 7:30 p.m.).

Doyle first joined Harrisburg on loan the final week of April and started the club's 1-1 tie in Wilmington on May 1. He made four saves in 110 minutes in that contest.

The 6-5, 205-pound netminder went 1-1-4 with a 0.87 goals against average and two shutouts in six games for Charleston as a rookie in 2003. He has not yet appeared in an A-League game this season. The native of Dublin, CA, was a four-year starter at the University of Hartford.

Nagging injuries to keepers Dave Kern and Peter Boyer (who will miss the weekend) necessitated the acquisition of Doyle. While Doyle is expected to start on Friday against Long Island, Kern's status will be re-evaluated for Saturday's match in Reading.

The Harrisburg City Islanders are playing their inaugural season in the Pro Soccer League (PSL), a division of the United Soccer Leagues (USL). The club's 20-game regular season (10 home, 10 away) opened on April 17 and will conclude on Saturday, August 14, at home against the Charlotte Eagles.
