Flames Sign Rookie Defenseman Tim Ramholt

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Flames, the NHL affiliate of the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, announced Tuesday the signing of defenseman Tim Ramholt. As per club policy, terms and conditions of the deal were not disclosed. The announcement was made by Flames' General Manager and Head Coach Darryl Sutter. Ramholt is expected to play his first North American season with the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights beginning this fall.

Ramholt played the 2005-06 season with the Kloten Flyers in Switzerland appearing in 42 regular season games and 11 in the playoffs. The 6'1" 194 lbs. rearguard has represented his native country of Switzerland three times at the World Junior Championships (2002, 2003 and 2004). The Flames drafted Ramholt in the second round, 39th overall, in the 2003 Entry Draft.

Ramholt is one of many Flames' prospects in Calgary for a week-long summer development camp which runs through Friday. Members of last year's Knights' team also are taking part. They include goaltender Curtis McElhinney, defensemen Mark Giordano, Tim Hambly, Steve Marr, Brett Palin, Adam Pardy, and Richie Regehr and forwards Derek Couture, Cam Cunning, Tomi Maki, Dave Moss, Chris Neiszner, Eric Nystrom, Warren Peters, Brandon Prust and Justin Taylor.

In addition, several other recent signees who also could be in Omaha for the 2006-07 season are participating in the camp. They include forwards Dustin Boyd, Kris Chucko, Adam Cracknell, Aki Seitsonen and David Van der Gulik.

Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' head coach Ryan McGill, assistant coach Scott Allen and President/Assistant General Manager of the Flames Doug Soetaert also are on hand for the camp.
