Abbotsford Heat News Release

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames' prospect Dustin Boyd wants to kick it up a notch. The 20-year-old forward is more than ready to take on the hockey world professionally and he wants to prove it.

Boyd, who is coming off an exceptional year with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League (WHL), is one of 23 forwards attending this week's development camp being held in Calgary. The camp includes several members of the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' 2005-06 team and several prospective members for the coming season, including Boyd.

"I think it's good to come here and see all the other Calgary Flames prospects and see where you're at with the fitness testing and know what you have to improve on for camp in the fall," said Boyd.

In 64 games with the Warriors, Boyd tallied 90 points, including 48 goals and 42 assists, which proves to the coaching staff that he's a prolific scorer with a lot of offensive talent.

"In junior I scored a lot of goals, so I'm a goal scorer, a play-maker and I play both ends of the ice," added Boyd.

All are key ingredients to what makes up a great player, but even Boyd wants to step up his game and polish off his skills.

"I want to get faster and stronger and fine tune all the aspects of my game before camp in the fall, so can hopefully make the team."

The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba also captured gold with Team Canada at the 2006 World Junior Championships in Vancouver, British Columbia, posting six points in six games. He tied for first on the Canadian team in goals with four and tied for second in points.

"I think the whole experience in itself was unbelievable," said Boyd. "Getting to play on the world stage, especially at home, was great and to win was something more special."

Boyd, who stands 6'0'' and weighs in at 200 lbs., was drafted by the Flames in the third round, 98th overall in the 2004 Entry Draft.

Boyd and other future Flame hopefuls are working out at the Don Hartman North East Sportsplex in Calgary through Saturday.
