Florida Flame News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Two members of the Florida Flame, guard Andre Barrett and forward Theron Smith, have been selected to the 2005-06 All-NBA Development League Team as voted on by the league's head coaches. Barrett was named to the First Team, while Smith was named as an Honorable Mention selection.

Barrett, who is currently playing in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors after signing a second 10-day contract, was originally selected by Florida as the number one overall pick in the 2005 D-League Draft. At the time of his GATORADE Call-Up to the Phoenix Suns on March 1, 2006, Barrett ranked among D-League leaders in total assists (217, second), total minutes (1,175), assists average (6.6, third), minutes per game (35.6, fifth), and scoring average (17.0, 10th).

The second-year pro from Seton Hall University ('04) led Florida in assists in 24 games, led the Flame in scoring eight times, and tallied six double-doubles. Barrett scored in double figures in all but two games this season and hit 50 percent of his field goals (192-383) in his last 28 games. The 5-11, 173-pound point guard posted a season-high 31 points on 12-21 shooting at Tulsa on January 28, 2006, and notched a double-double with 16 points and 15 assists versus Austin on January 8.

Smith was signed by the Flame on November 3, 2005 as Florida's 2005-06 allocation player. The 6-8, 225-pound forward appeared in a total of 33 games with 30 starts for the Flame before suffering a season-ending knee injury. The Auburndale, Fla. native averaged 14.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 33.6 minutes per game while shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 82.5 percent from the foul line.

Smith led Florida in scoring eight times and led the Flame in rebounding five times. The two-year NBA veteran with Memphis and Charlotte posted a season-high 29 points twice, on January 12, 2006 versus Roanoke and January 15, 2006 at Fayetteville during the MLK Showcase. The third-year pro out of Ball State University ('03) finished with six double-doubles and grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds at Tulsa on January 29, 2006.

Barrett and Smith are the fourth and fifth Flame players to be selected to the All-NBA Development League team over the franchise's first two seasons. Last season, Kirk Haston (First Team), Hiram Fuller (First Team), and Carl English (Honorable Mention) were selected to the All-D-League squad.

A pair of high-scoring guards from the Roanoke Dazzle, Will Bynum and Anthony Grundy, along with Austin forward Marcus Fizer and Fort Worth swingman Ime Udoka round out the 2005-06 All-NBA Development League First Team.

Three of the first-team choices have spent time on NBA rosters this season, Fizer with the Seattle SuperSonics, while Bynum is currently with the Golden State Warriors and Barrett with the Raptors. Bynum and Grundy led the D-League in scoring for virtually the entire season and Grundy is the first player to score 1,000 points in a D-League season.

The All-D-League second team consists of three forwards, a guard and a pair of post players. Isiah Victor of Roanoke, Jamar Smith of Austin and Erik Daniels of Fayetteville hold down the forward spots. Guard John Lucas III of Tulsa, along with centers Luke Schenscher of Fort Worth and Scott Merritt of Austin round out the second team.

"Our coaches did a terrific job of selecting the All-D-League first and second teams given the abundance of talent in the league," Senior Director of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel Chris Alpert said. "All the players, first and second team selections, as well as honorable mention choices, had exceptional seasons."

Other players earning All-NBA D-League honorable mention include guards Will Conroy (Tulsa), Tierre Brown (Albuquerque), Clay Tucker (Arkansas), Kelenna Azubuike (Fort Worth), Derrick Zimmerman (Austin) and Ramel Curry (Austin); centers Andreas Glyniadakis (Albuquerque) and James Lang (Arkansas); forwards Brian Jackson (Arkansas), Desmon Farmer (Tulsa) and T.J. Cummings (Albuquerque).

The Austin Toros had five all-league selections each, including first, second and honorable mention. Albuquerque, Arkansas, Fort Worth, Roanoke and Tulsa had three each.
