Flame too hot for Dazzle

January 1, 2005 - NBA G League (G League)
Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va. Jan. 1 – Hiram Fuller's tip shot led the Florida Flame (2-9) to a victory at the buzzer over the Roanoke Dazzle (7-6) in Saturday's NBDL match-up at the Roanoke Civic Center. Both teams were plagued by turnovers, although the Dazzle shot only 39.6% from the field which may have been their demise.

Kevin Braswell led Florida's scoring attack with 22 points, although each of Florida's starters also posted double digit figures. Two Flame starters had double-doubles, Kirk Hasten with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Hiram Fuller with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Darius Rice and Byron Mouton both contributed 10 while Marcus Moore poured in another 14.

Florida Coach Dennis Johnson was pleased with his teams' second victory. "It does really feel good to get a second win," said Johnson. "When we went into the zone we forced them to take shots that maybe you don't want to take. Our zone really worked well against them."

Roanoke came out of the gate looking strong, holding back the Flame in the first half. After the half Roanoke's Alexander found his rhythm rewarding Roanoke with 11 and an eight point edge over Florida at the end of the third. After trading baskets in the fourth Florida came out on top putting up 30 points in the quarter.

Matt Carroll shot 25 off the bench, leading the Dazzle in points earned. Terrence Shannon and Isiah Victor teamed up to post 18 each while Cory Alexander tallied 17.

"We just didn't hit open looks and we had some good ones, we didn't see them. Compound that with the fact that we hit 61% from the free throw line," said Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison. "That's a formula for having a team that should not beat you...beat you."

The Dazzle return to action Friday, January 7 on the road at the Asheville Civic Center against the Asheville Altitude at 7:00 p.m. Florida remain on the road taking on the Fayetteville Patriots on Sunday, Jan. 2, game time 5:00 p.m. For more information, log onto www.nbdl.com
