Five Steelhawks Named to 2015 All-PIFL Teams

Allentown, PA: In release made today, the league office of the Professional Indoor Football League announced their First and Second Team All-League Players. In all, five Steelhawks were named for their accomplishments this season tying the most Steelhawks to make the list with the 2013 season. Defensive Lineman Larry Ford along with Defensive Back Joe Powell were named as the Steelhawks First Team members while Wide Receiver Brandon Renford, Offensive Lineman John Lavelle, and Defensive Lineman Amara Kamara were named to the Second Team.

PIFL First Team Defensive Lineman Larry Ford (6'4", West Virginia University) has been arguably the league's Most Valuable Player Defensively this season, leading the Steelhawk stop ranked defensive unit. With 12.5 sacks in just 11 games, good for second most in the league. In addition, Ford led the league with four forced fumbles while also recovering two fumbles.

PIFL First Team Defensive back Joe Powell (6'1", Globe Tech) in his first professional football season led the entire PIFL with 11 interceptions on the season, tying a league record. Powell was found at a Steelhawks open tryout this past season, and is now on the short list for Defensive Rookie of the Year award. In addition to his interceptions, Powell finished second in the league in total tackles.

WR Brandon Renford, in his third season with the Steelhawks was named to the PIFL Second Team. In eleven games Renford finished tied for third in the league with 71 receptions and fifth with 883 yards. To go along with that, Renford (5'8", Niagara CC) found the endzone 16 times.

Offensive Lineman John Lavelle, in his second season with the Steelhawks, was names to the All-IFL Second Team. As the anchor of the Steelhawks front line that led the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns Lavelle (6'2", Delaware Valley College) was the man in the middle defending Quarterbacks Shane Mcsweeny and Zach Zulli in each of the teams 11 regular season games and playoff contest.

Rounding out the Second Team All-PIFL is Defensive Lineman Amara Kamara (6'2", Temple). Kamara, after finishing second in the league in 2014 in sacks, returns to the All-PIFL team for a second straight year. Kamara led the league in fumble recoveries with four in 2015 to go along with nine tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

These fine individuals helped the Steelhawks to a 6-5 record in 2015 and the teams fourth consecutive playoff berth in five seasons of professional play. With the teams loss to the Columbus Lions in last weeks Semi-Final playoff round the team begins their preparations for 2016. The Richmond Raiders travel to Columbus for the 2015 PIFL Championship game on Monday, June 6th.
