TAMPA -- The Clearwater Threshers suffered a sweep at the hands of the Tampa Yankees on Thursday, as the Threshers surrendered five runs in the seventh inning in a 7-3 loss at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Clearwater (1-6) trailed by just one run at the seventh-inning stretch, but the Yankees (4-3) took advantage of an error in combination with four hits in the inning to open up a six-run advantage.

Tampa collected three straight singles off starter Jon Prosinski (0-2) to open the inning, loading the bases with nobody out. Prosinski got Reymond Nunez to hit a grounder to short that forced out the lead runner at home, but a hit batsman pushed a run across and an error on rehabbing Phillie Freddy Galvis at second opened the door for the five-run inning.

Clearwater scraped its way back in the game in the eighth, when Brain Pointer reached on an error and Galvis split the right-centerfield gap with a triple to plate Pointer. Pete Lavin followed with a sacrifice fly that brought the Threshers to a 7-3 deficit.

It was a pitchers' duel early on.

After Prosinski set the side down in order in the first, Peter O'Brien led off the Yankees' second with a solo shot down the left field line. Reymond Nunez later added an RBI single with two outs to make it 2-0 Tampa.

The Threshers had an opportunity in the fifth against Yankees starter Eric Wooten (1-0). Art Charles led off by dropping a bunt single against the shift down the third base line, and both Casey Serna and Nick Ferdinand followed with singles of their own to load the bases with nobody out.

Wooten though settled in to strike out the next two batters he faced, and got Pointer to fly out to center to end the threat.

Clearwater cut the lead in half in the top of the seventh. Charles walked to open the frame, and Serna delivered a double inside the third base line to place two men in scoring position with nobody out.

One out later, Logan Moore pulled a grounder to second that allowed Charles to score, making it a 2-1 game.

Prosinski had been effective through the front six frames, and finished having allowed seven runs - four earned - on eight hits in 6.2 innings. He did not issue a single walk, and in fact 63 of his 83 pitches were for strikes.

Wooten earned the win for Tampa after tossing six shutout frames. The left-hander allowed three hits and struck out six.

Clearwater will continue its seven-game road swing on Friday, when the Threshers head to Lakeland to open a three game series with the Flying Tigers. First pitch is set for 7:11 p.m., and the game can be heard live on threshersbaseball.com beginning at 6:55 p.m.
