
Five-Run Second Inning Leads to Hickory Win

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves (6-18) were defeated by the Hickory Crawdads (15-9) on Saturday night by a score of 8-1 before 3,456 fans.
A solo shot by Nomar Mazara (13) in the second gave Hickory a 1-0 lead and they did not look back. The Crawdads added four more runs in the inning when a throwing error allowed Kellin Deglan to reach home, a wild pitch plated Jairo Beras, Ryan Cordell knocked in a run on a fielder's choice, and Joe Jackson added an RBI single for the 5-0 lead. Rome's only run of the game came in the next inning Carlos Franco reached on a walk, moved to third on a single by Sean Godfrey, and crossed the plate on a wild pitch making the 5-1. The Crawdads added three more runs in the seventh while their bullpen held off Rome for the final 8-1 victory.
Cole Wiper (6-7) got the win while Steve Janas (2-4) is charged with the loss.
