Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER, FL - Three different players recorded multiple RBIs as the Clearwater Threshers (25-12) took down the Daytona Tortugas (19-18) in a 12-6 victory on Friday night at BayCare Ballpark. Clearwater looks to secure the series win on Saturday against Daytona.
A two-run home run gave the Tortugas the lead in the top of the first. The Threshers responded with back-to-back hits off Tortuga's starter Jose Franco to lead off the home half of the inning, with a single by Trent Farquhar and a double by Aidan Miller. With runners on second and third, Rafael Marchán grounded out to first, but Farquhar scored from third to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Devin Saltiban led off the second inning with a four-pitch walk and stole second with one out in the frame. With two outs in the inning, Avery Owusu-Asiedu tied the game on a single to right field, allowing Saltiban to score from second and squaring the game at two.
Rafael Marchán sent the second pitch of the third inning to deep left field for a go-ahead solo home run. Two batters later, Bryson Ware went to left centerfield with a solo shot of his own, giving the Threshers a 4-2 lead.
The Tortugas tied the game at four with four hits in a row in the top of the fourth inning. Miller walked to start the fifth and Marchán moved Miller to second with a single before Keaton Anthony gave the Threshers the lead with a base hit. After the first out of the frame, Saltiban hit a double to right, scoring Marchán and making it 6-4 Threshers.
Daytona reliever Alex Johnson walked Farquhar with one out in the home half of the sixth. On a 3-2 count, Miller clubbed his second double of the game to straightaway center, plating Farquhar and extending the Threshers advantage to three runs.
The first three batters reached for the Tortugas in the eighth and scored on a bases-loaded double play to trim the Threshers lead to two runs. Anthony led off the eighth with a double, followed by a walk from Ware. Saltiban cleared the bases with a double to make it 9-5 Threshers. He moved to third on a wild pitch by Tortuga's reliever Jonah Hurney that brought the Threshers into double digits.
Kehden Hettiger and Raylin Heredia each drew walks, and Farquhar drove them both home with a double to give the Threshers a 12-5 lead. Daytona loaded the bases and got a run in the ninth, but the final batter struck out to seal a 12-6 Threshers victory.
