Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters, celebrating their 15th season in the Ontario Hockey League, have announced that five players will be heading to National Hockey League prospect camps.

Forwards Greg McKegg (Toronto Maple Leafs), Shawn Szydlowski (Ottawa Senators) and Andrew Yogan (New York Rangers); and defensemen Tyler Hostetter (Philadelphia Flyers) and David Shields (St. Louis Blues) will be at their respective camps for the following two weeks as the Otters prepare for the 2010-11 Ontario Hockey League season.

McKegg, a second round pick of the Leafs in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, is coming off a breakout season in the OHL as he tallied 85 points (37g, 45a) in 67 games. His 67-point improvement over the previous season was the best in the league.

Szydlowski will be an invite to Senators camp. The overage forward from St. Clair Shores, Mich. picked up 48 points (21g, 27a) last season and will face off against McKegg at the Maple Leafs Prospects Tournament this weekend in London, Ontario.

Yogan, a fourth round pick of the Rangers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, became the first player drafted by an NHL team that was born and raised in Florida. He scored 55 points (25g, 30a) in 63 games last season.

Hostetter signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers last September, and begins his second camp with the team. The Lititz, Pa. resident collected a career-high 26 points (2g, 24a) in 59 games last season.

Shields, a sixth round pick of the Blues in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, is also heading to his second NHL training camp. The towering blueliner grabbed seven goals last season and will participate in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament with Yogan.

Several former Otters will be participating in NHL prospect camps, including Mike Liambas (Toronto), Luke Gazdic (Dallas Stars) and Jaroslav Janus (Tampa Bay Lightning).

The Otters return to Tullio Arena for their 15th home opener Saturday, September 25 against the Saginaw Spirit. The Otters will retire the No.18 jersey of the late Vinny Scott prior to the game. Buy tickets through Ticketmaster, the Tullio Arena Box Office or by calling 452-4857.
