Sudbury Five News Release

(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Sudbury FIVE are pleased to announce the addition of their first local player as well as a new Assistant Coach with local roots. The FIVE have signed local basketball product, George Serresse, graduate of the Laurentian University Voyageur program in 2013 after playing under the direction of Head Coach Shawn Swords. Serresse graduated from the French program with a degree in Physical Education and health promotion and has played 4 years of professional basketball in France.

"We are so excited to work with a player like George who is local and has an established network and can play the game really well," said Logan Stutz, Sudbury FIVE General Manager and Head Coach. "You can really feel the team coming together and today's commitment is another important milestone for our franchise."

Serresse, 28, has played on 3 teams during his career including Vanves in Paris and ABC Trois Riviere, each for 1 season. For the past 2 seasons Serresse has played in Sable d'Olonnes in France. Serresse is a 6' 3", 205 pound player who can play the 1, 2, or 3 position typical of a fast and athletic guard.

In addition to the team's first local player signings, the Five are pleased to welcome the franchise's inaugural Assistant Coach. Kyle Beers, a life-long resident of Northern Ontario, high school teacher, and owner of Northern Lights Basketball Academy, will join Head Coach Logan Stutz on the bench during the 2018-19 campaign. A passionate sports enthusiast with basketball in his veins, Beers has been involved in basketball in Northern Ontario for more than 25 years as player and coach. Beers will work with the players on skill development, strategy and execution in-game.

"Having a solid person like Kyle join me on the bench is going to be integral to the success of our team's performance both on and off the court," said Stutz. "He can be a mentor and another ear for players to turn when they need to brainstorm and improve on areas of their game."

The Sudbury Five have announced their season schedule, 3 player signings and both coaches for the inaugural season set to begin November 22nd, 2018 at the Sudbury Arena. Plans are in place to announce the next two player signings in early October ahead of team training camp at the end of October. Season memberships are available at thefive.ca or greatersudbury.ca/tickets and can be purchased conveniently at home or on your mobile device. Individual game tickets are set to go on sale at the end of October.
