Sudbury Five News Release
(Sudbury, ON) The Sudbury FIVE have acquired Walter Pitchford from the Moncton Magic, in exchange for the player rights to Americans Kris Joseph and Sam Muldrow.
Pitchford played college basketball for the Florida Gators, before transferring to Nebraska for the 2012 season. During the 2015-16 season, the 6' 11" big man played for Raptors 905 in the NBA's G-League where he averaged 14.3 minutes and 4.4 rebounds per game. Pitchford is currently signed to a one-year standard player agreement.
"We're excited to bring a big man of Walter's size and skill to the Five," said Head Coach and General Manager Logan Stutz. "His ability to rebound and shoot the ball from the perimeter are highly valued in this league and will be relied upon during our inaugural season."
Pitchford recently returned from China where he joined the Moncton Magic in a group of exhibition games against some of the top teams in the Chinese Basketball Association.
"I'm looking forward to playing for Coach Stutz and coming to a historic city in Sudbury to help grow the basketball culture," said the newly acquired Pitchford. "It's going to be an exciting year playing alongside some friends and former teammates in a city that has never seen professional basketball before."
The Sudbury FIVE will begin their inaugural season at the Sudbury Arena on November 22nd, 2018. The franchise has now announced the signings of Marcus Lewis, Kadeem Green, Georges Serresse, and Tyrrel Tate in addition to the recent acquisition of Walter Pitchford. Sudbury FIVE season memberships are on sale now at www.greatersudbury.ca/tickets and single game tickets are set to be released on October 22nd.
