
Fisher Cats Top Mets for Third Straight Win

(Binghamton, NY)---Ryan Goins, Mike McDade and Brad McElroy homered to support the strong pitching of Brett Cecil and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats have won three games in a row for the first time this season after an 8-2 win on Saturday night in Binghamton.
The Mets opened the scoring against Cecil in the bottom of the first inning. Sean Kazmar singled, Josh Rodriguez walked and Jefry Marte singled Kazmar home for a 1-0 lead.
New Hampshire (20-27) failed to a produce a base-runner the first time through the order, but broke through against Binghamton starter Greg Peavey in the top of the fourth inning. Brian Van Kirk doubled and Mike McDade ripped his ninth home run for a 2-1 lead.
After there were two outs in the top of the fifth inning, Brad Glenn singled, Brian Jeroloman singled, and Goins (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) drilled an 0-2 pitch out of the park in right field to make it 5-1 New Hampshire.
Binghamton (22-25) pulled to within 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Reese Havens walked and scored on a double by Juan Lagares, just beating the throw to the plate.
Cecil (3-2) won his third consecutive start for the Fisher Cats, pitching a season-high seven innings, allowing seven hits. He walked three and Cecil struck out four. Danny Farquhar worked two scoreless innings to finish up for his first save of the season.
Peavey (3-2) took the loss for the Mets. New Hampshire hit reliever Erik Turgeon for three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Kevin Howard (2-for-4, 2 doubles) doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch. After Goins singled, Brad McElroy hit his first home run of the season.
The Fisher Cats and Mets continue the series in Binghamton on Sunday at 6:35PM. RHP Fernando Hernandez (0-1, 2.49) is the scheduled starter for New Hampshire. After completing the series in Binghamton on Monday afternoon, the Fisher Cats head back to Manchester.
