
Fisher Cats to Retire Number 83 in Honor of Fallen Manchester Police Officer Michael Briggs

Manchester, NH - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays announce plans to honor fallen Manchester Police Officer Michael Briggs with the retirement of number 83, which was his badge number. A Salute to Officer Michael Briggs at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium will take place on Monday, May 21. During a pre-game ceremony, Officer Briggs' badge number 83 will be retired on the outfield wall next to baseball legend - Jackie Robinson's retired number 42. Briggs' number will be the first Fisher Cats number ever retired by the team.
A portion of ticket sales for the May 21 game will be donated to two organizations in Michael's honor, the Manchester Police Athletic League and the Veterans Count, a program facilitated by Easter Seals in cooperation with local military and veteran groups. To participate in the fundraising efforts, tickets can be purchased through the Fisher Cats website at www.nhfishercats.com.
"The Fisher Cats are looking forward to working closely with the Manchester Police Department to plan a special tribute for Officer Briggs," said Fisher Cats president and general manager, Rick Brenner. "While we honor Officer Briggs we are also helping two organizations that contribute a great deal to the community."

This initiative will work to ensure veterans and their families receive exceptional services maximizing their quality of life in recognition of their service and sacrifice for the community," said Easter Seals New Hampshire COO, Christine McMahon.
The Manchester Police Department will also announce plans for a community service award named, The Michael Briggs Community Hero Award. The good Samaritan award will be an annual award given at the ballpark to a civilian that that has gone above and beyond to help the local community.
"The Fisher Cats have rallied behind the police department and the Briggs' Family," said Manchester Police Chief Jaskolka. "We are grateful for their continued support and look forward to presenting the first Michael Briggs Community Hero Award."
The night of the game, the Fisher Cats players will be wearing special commemorative jerseys honoring Officer Briggs. The jerseys will carry the Manchester Police Department patch and Officer Briggs' badge number 83. They will be auctioned off before the game via the Fisher Cats website, www.nhfishercats.com, and at the ballpark the day of the game.
