New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats have moved to within a half-game of first place in the Northern Division of the Eastern League. New Hampshire swept a double-header from the New Britain Rock Cats Monday night. OF Maikel Jova hit the first walk-off homer in team history in a 5-4 win in Game 1. RHP Brandon League (3-3) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win.
In the nightcap, RHP Jamie Vermilyea (1-0) retired all 21 Rock Cats as the Fisher Cats won 2-0. The 22-year old product of the University of New Mexico was making his first Double-A start. Vermilyea's perfect game is the Eastern League's first since June 7, 2000. He threw 71 pitches (50 for strikes) and allowed only two balls out of the infield.
Vermilyea has now faced 34 batters as a member of the Fisher Cats, and retired them all.
New Britain failed to reach base the last 15 at-bats of yesterday's first game, so they enter tonight's game having been retired 36 consecutive times.
New Hampshire has won 5 straight and 10 of the last 12.
Tonight is Girls Night Out at Gill Stadium. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
The New Britain series continues with games tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. and Thursday at 12:05 p.m.
