Altoona Curve News Release

Reading, PA- A two-run sixth inning that lifted the Reading Phillies to a 5-3 win over the Altoona Curve Tuesday night at First Energy Stadium in Reading.

Altoona (47-31) lost for just the sixth time in its last 26 games and saw its first-place lead in the Eastern League's Southern Division drop to four games after second-place Erie's win at Harrisburg Tuesday night. Reading (37-40) won for the 12th time in its last 15 games.

Reading took the decisive two-run lead in the sixth against Curve starter Brady Borner (4-4). Jeff Phelps' sacrifice fly to right gave the Phils a 4-3 lead before Sanches extended the advantage to 5-3 with a double to the right-center. Borner allowed five runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings of work to take the loss.

Sanches (3-0) held the Curve off the board on just one hit before turning the game over to Martire Franco, who tossed two scoreless innings to notch his fourth save.

The Curve started the game on a strong note against Reading starter Eude Brito when Josh Bonifay belted a two-run homer to right--his team-leading 13th of the season--to give Altoona a 2-0 lead.

After Reading scored single runs in each of its first three innings to go ahead 3-2, the Curve evened the game at 3-3 on Ronny Paulino's ninth longball on the season. Paulino led the Curve offense by going 3-for-4 and falling just a triple shy of the cycle.

Altoona and Reading will face off in the rubber game of the three-game series Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. In a match-up of right-handers, the Curve will send Landon Jacobsen (5-2, 4.99) to the mound against one of the Eastern League's top pitching prospects, Gavin Floyd (3-4, 2.54). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
