New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- Fabio Castro and two relievers combined on a nine-hit shutout, and Brian Jeroloman went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats' 5-0 triumph over the New Britain Rock Cats before a crowd of 3,425 on Friday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. By capturing their third straight victory, the Fishers are off to their first 3-0 start since their inaugural season in 2004.

New Hampshire (3-0) went ahead 1-0 when Kyle Phillips (1-for-4, HR, RBI) ripped Ryan Mullins' first pitch of the second inning over the rightfield wall and onto the access road for the club's first home run of the season. The Fisher Cats built the lead to 2-0 when Chris Gutierrez (1-for-3, RBI, BB, R) and Todd Donovan (0-for-3, BB, SB) walked and Jeroloman (3-for-4, 2B, RBI, R) drove in Gutierrez with an opposite-field single.

An unearned run gave the Fisher Cats a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jeroloman doubled and scored when Rock Cats first baseman Whit Robbins mishandled a chopper off the bat of Brad Emaus (0-for-3, BB, RBI).

Emaus added a fielder's choice RBI grounder in the bottom of the seventh inning against Zach Ward, allowing Sean Shoffit (1-for-4, 2B, R), who doubled, to score.

Nick Gorneault (0-for-3, BB, R, SB) drew a two-out walk in the eighth inning, stole second base and came home when Gutierrez blooped a single to right off reliever Jose Lugo to conclude the scoring.

Castro (1-0), making his New Hampshire debut, held New Britain (0-3) to six hits -all singles- in 5.2 innings to notch the win. The left-hander struck out five and allowed only one base runner to reach second base.

Ex-Rock Cat reliever David Shinskie pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, and Nate Starner closed it out with a pair of shutout frames.

Mullins (0-1) yielded three runs -two earned- in 4.1 innings to absorb the loss. The left-hander allowed six hits, walked three and fanned three.

The Fisher Cats take aim at the first 4-0 start in franchise history on Saturday afternoon at 1:05pm when they send left-hander Luis Perez (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against New Britain righty Cole Devries (0-0, 0.00). Radio coverage begins at 12:45pm with Mike Murphy and Bob Lipman and the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.

The first 2,000 fans in attendance at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Saturday afternoon will receive a free Country Woods Furniture Fisher Cats Magnetic Schedule. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
