Fisher Cats Blank B-Mets, End Win Streak

Kyle Yates tossed six shutout innings, helping the New Hampshire Fisher Cats defeat the Binghamton Mets 4-0 at NYSEG Stadium Sunday. The B-Mets, shut out for the second time this season, saw their win streak end at seven games.

New Hampshire (24-21) went ahead in the first when Robinzon Diaz reached on a fielder's choice, moved to third on a Sergio Santos base hit and scored on a throwing error by pitcher Jose Sanchez. Sanchez (1-3) did not come back after a 45-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fourth.

The Fisher Cats got two more in the sixth when Chip Cannon doubled off Ricardo Morales and scored on Ryan Patterson's two-run homer. David Smith singled in Dustin Majewski in the seventh for the game's final run.

The B-Mets (22-24) got only two baserunners into scoring position against Yates (2-2). Binghamton's best scoring chance came in the sixth when Fernando Martinez singled and Caleb Stewart walked, putting two men on with one out. However, Brett Harper struck out and Miguel Negron flied out to end the threat.

Monday, the B-Mets wrap up their four-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Marcos Carvajal (1-2, 5.35) will start for the B-Mets against Russ Savickas (1-2, 6.43) of New Hampshire. Game time is 1:05 from NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 12:50 on ESPN 1360 WYOS.

Notes: the B-Mets were also shut out on Opening Night, 4/9 @ ERI, losing 8-0...New Hampshire had lost 13 straight at NYSEG Stadium, last winning in Binghamton 7/6/2005...Caleb Stewart was 0 for 3, ending his hit streak at 16 games, while Brett Harper's infield single in the second extended his hit streak to an EL-high 18 games...Binghamton had scored five or more runs in their previous 10 games...Yates has tossed 14 consecutive scoreless innings.
