'Fish Win Second Half Opener

(Bridgeport, Conn.) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (1-0, 32-39) defeated the Long Island Ducks (0-1, 39-31) by a score of 8-4 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday to open the second half of the season. Bridgeport is now 7-4 against Long Island this season.
With Bridgeport trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the sixth, the Bluefish pushed five runners across to take the lead for the rest of the evening. The home team added another in the seventh.
Elliott Ayala extended his hitting streak to nine consecutive contests with a double to right in the third. He picked up two hits, reached base three times, drove in two runners and scored three times. Kennard Jones collected three hits and drove in two runners. Luis Lopez, Luis Rodriguez and James Simmons each picked up a hit, a run scored, and an RBI while Luis Figueroa and Eddie Rogers drove in runs for the winning team.
Bluefish starter, Paul Oseguera, did not factor in the decision. The southpaw served five-and-two-thirds innings and allowed three runs (one earned), four hits and one walk while fanning six. Julio DePaula (1-0) was among four relievers to complete three-and-a-third frames of one run, three hit, one walk and one strikeout baseball. DePaula picked up his first Bluefish win.
Ducks hurler, Nick Singleton (1-2) suffered the loss as the righthanded starter worked five-and-a-third innings and allowed five runs on six hits and three walks. The starter struck out six Bridgeport batters. A combination of three relief pitchers threw two-and-two-thirds frames of four run (two earned run), four hit, two walk, and three strikeout baseball.
Bridgeport continues the second half of the Atlantic League season by hosting the Long Island Ducks on Saturday, July 14. First pitch is slated for 6:05 PM. Bridgeport will send lefthanded hurler, Dan Serafini (2-0, 1.67 ERA), to the hill against righthanded starter Bob Zimmermann (4-2, 3.83). The gates open one hour before first pitch.
