Fish Falter In the Late Innings Again; Drop To Savannah LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. -- Over the next three days the Lexington County Blowfish will see two teams ahead of them in the CPL Western Division; the Forest City Owls and tonight the Savannah Bananas. The Fish hadn't beaten the Bananas since June 10th and tonight that streak of losses continued as they fell to Savannah 9-5. Lexington County got out to a quick start against the Bananas with four runs in the home half of the first on two, two run singles from Drew Ellis (The Citadel) and Derek Olenchuk (Newberry). Savannah cut the lead to one after they scored three unearned runs in the fourth but the Blowfish extended the lead back to two after Olenchuk launched a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning. From that point things faltered for the Fish throughout the remainder of the game. Savannah cut the lead back to one when Rylan Bannon (Xavier) knocked a solo home run over the left field wall just over the outstretched glove of Chaz McCormick (Millersville). The Bananas tied the game on three consecutive singles in the seventh eventually bringing in Clint Hardy (Augusta State) on the Nelson Garrett (Long Beach State) RBI single. Savannah took the lead and added insurance in the eighth on two home runs in the inning. Clay Dungan (Indiana State) hit the first; a three run homer to give the Bananas the lead 8-5. Dungan's home run was followed up by a solo shot from Jameson Hannah (Dallas Baptist), which pushed the lead to four. The Fish went quietly in the ninth and dropped their fifth consecutive game to the Bananas. Tomorrow night Lexington County gets another crack at the Bananas as they travel to Grayson Station for game two of the home and home series. First pitch is slated for 7:05 and coverage on z93.1 FM The Lake will begin at 6:50. ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~
