First-Place RailHawks Return to NASL Action against FC Edmonton

CARY, NC (June 15, 2013) - The first-place Carolina RailHawks (4W-3T-1L, 15pts) return to NASL action when they travel to Canada to face FC Edmonton (2W-4T-3L, 10pts) on Sunday, June 16 at 4pm ET. The RailHawks are coming off an impressive 3-1 win over Chivas USA in the 100th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. While the RailHawks counterpart, FC Edmonton, returns to Clarke Stadium following 1-1 draw against the Atlanta Silverbacks in Week 10 of the NASL Regular Season. The match will be broadcast live at www.CarolinaRailHawks.com.

This weekend's match will be the second time the two clubs have battled on the pitch this NASL Spring Season. In April the RailHawks defeated FC Edmonton by a score of 2-1 in the Grand Opening of the New WakeMed Soccer Park. Austin da Luz scored the opening goal of the match in the 52nd minute of play, and Brian Shriver's free kick in the 71st minute would cement the victory for the RailHawks. FC Edmonton striker Massimo Mirabelli would score for FC Edmonton in stoppage time.

The Carolina RailHawks currently sit in first place in the NASL Regular Season standings. Only one point ahead of the Atlanta Silverbacks and Minnesota United, the RailHawks will look to extend the club's current 5-game unbeaten streak before hosting Minnesota and Atlanta on June 22nd and 29th, respectively, at WakeMed Soccer Park. Only four games remain before the NASL Spring Season Champion will be crowned.

The RailHawks have loaned forward Ben Truax to Kitsap Pumas of the Premier Development League through July 13, 2013.

After their trip to Edmonton, the RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park on June 22nd to face Minnesota United and June 29th to face the Atlanta Silverbacks. On Saturday, June 29th prior to the RailHawks-Silverbacks match, the RailHawks will host the Second Annual Pig Pickin' and fireworks will follow the match.
